Reports and studies are revealing that child trafficking is on the rise. Child victims of human trafficking helped by “International Organization of Migration” (IOM) increased to 2,040 in 2011, up 27 per cent from 1,565 in 2008, according to new IOM data.
Around the world awareness of human trafficking is increasing and yet the number of cases, incidents, studies and reports on slavery say that it is on the rise. Where is the problem? Awareness is increasing and still the numbers and data are showing human trafficking is rising. The data is disturbing to say the least when I read a report that says that child trafficking is rising.
Spending hours in prayer for the end of human trafficking and slavery. The data can be discouraging, but I cant look to the circumstance. My eyes need to be focused on God, and what He can do to reveal the truth.
Reading the story of Nehemiah gives me some prespective on how to handle the news. Nehemiah was in a safe envireoment, living a life most dreamed of during that time. Yet, he choose to risk it all and go to help his people. In Nehemiah 4 the story tells us that the enemies of the jews (Sanballat and Tobiah) were angry because they were building a wall to protect themselves from attack, under the authority of Nehemiah.
“Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, “What they are building—even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones! Nehemiah’s response”Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of the builders. So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart. “Nehemiah 4:3-6
The reports sometimes look grim, the enemies of Nehemiah had influence, powers, and armies. But none can compare with the power of God. Nehemiah won the fight in prayer and inspired the people to continue and fight for the protection of their city by building a wall. Everytime we pray for the end of slavery and for the children forced into human trafficking we are building a wall. The reports say that child trafficking is on the rise, so we can continue in prayer to construct a shelter around them through prayer.
Let us do what Nehemiah did and pray for the evil to be exposed, for the protection, shelter and safety of the children. Not to listen to the voices that insult or discourage us from what we are called too ~ praying for freedom.
In your own life ask the question:
Where are the insults that I am listening too or areas of discouragement?
Release them to God through prayer and ask for His thoughts about the situation?
Pray for the protection of children around the world, and the end to child trafficking.
We are praying for you. And we know that your prayers are changing the World and bringing freedom to children trapped in slavery. We will continue to fight with our whole hearts to build the walls for the protection of children.
