Advocacy

“We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

Elie Wiesel

At Prayer for Freedom we believe that real and lasting change starts and ends with prayer. But to be a true reflection of Christ love we have to get involved in culture and society that is a part of the world. So we believe in the power of advocacy, that our voices can be raised for freedom and change around the world. Regardless of where you live you can be a part of change to see Gods kingdom come on earth through laws that stand for justice and human rights.

“Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world…would do this, it would change the earth.”

William Faulkner

In 2015 the U.S. will be voting on a law that could literally reduce the amount of slavery over the next seven  years in targeted countries by 50%. It’s called the End Slavery Initiative Act of 2015, part of the bill

  • Prioritize rescue of slaves and apprehension of slavery perpetrators.
  • The EMSI would require data gathering and measurable reduction of prevalence to ensure that programs are effective.
  • Funds would be matching requirements by target countries governments, U.S. government grants and the private sector.

On a personal note I believe this piece of legislation could literally free children, women and men from slavery. If this legislation is signed into law it could change the way the abolition movement works in our advocacy efforts to ensure that programs are used effectively and target countries are changing to see justice through the judicial system as well as freedom for victims.
