Prayer For Freedom’s Vision
To see people freed from slavery physically, spiritually and mentally and to prevent human trafficking through innovative and creative measures.
Prayer for Freedom’s mission is to facilitate prayer to end slavery and assist communities to prevent, free and stop human trafficking.
Prayer For Freedom was established in 2010 by Joy Brooks. Joy has worked in missions for over 10 years. Most recently in Targu-Mures, Romania where she spent 7 years. She incorporated ministry with the Arts. She taught dance, choreography, English and life-skills to youth and high-risk populations while always sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and His love for all people.
In addition to working in Romania, she has worked in missions in France, Bosnia, and Kosovo.
Prayer For Freedom was established out of her faith in God and an understanding that prayer is the first step toward changing the world.
“I believe that prayer and faith will change the world. After spending time in prayer we are always called to action”
She believes that uniting people in prayer against Human Trafficking and Slavery will be the beginning of the end of Slavery. Once people are changed in prayer, they will always take action toward the will of God, freedom in and through Christ.
What We do at Prayer For Freedom
Prayer is always our first step in all that we do, beginning and ending with prayer.
Advocacy is also a part of what we strive for at Prayer For Freedom.
We advocate by speaking up for victims, raising awareness of slavery, encouraging new state policies, federal laws and international awareness of the realities of human trafficking and slavery.
Outreach to engaging communities to pray, advocate and speak for the victims of human trafficking and educate teens and children about human trafficking.
Prevention of human trafficking and slavery
We believe that prevention of human trafficking will help end slavery. In 2012 we establish a new outreach program for teens and children called “Not My Generation: Slavery.” We believe that educating young people about human trafficking and discipling them in Christ love will be the begining of the end of slavery in their generation.
In this program we teach children and teens who are at-risk of being trafficked about the dangers, signs and ways traffickers work.
- What human trafficking looks like, and the dangers of street life.
- Disciple each teen and child on their identity in Christ love.
- The principles of the program is to listen, encourage and love each teen while being honest about the realities of human trafficking.
- Provide a meal.
- Field trips to explore different cultures.
- Teach various forms of Art (dance, art, spoken word, creative writing)
In 2014 we started our boys prevention program to equip young boys and teens to be there sister’s keeper. We teach about respecting women and respecting themselves and choosing healthy relationship all the while establishing this foundation comes through Christ.
We also assist any children that might need additional help by house visit’s to parents and offer counseling by collaborating with existing organization that provide licensed trauma care counseling to children and their families.
This is a one day camp where we teach children ages 9-16 about forgiveness, hearing God, living without fear, establishing our identity in Christ and an artistic element of prophetic painting, where they get to practice all of the day’s lessons.
We post weekly prayer request on our website and twice a year we have a prayer and fasting campaign to pray for an end of human trafficking. At Prayer for Freedom everything we do begins and ends with prayer.
Awareness Community Outreach:Twice a year we work with other organization to go to the streets in places where trafficking exist and pray for people and give donuts or candy while helping to raise awareness of human trafficking .
We reach out to parents of the kids in our program by house visits where we pray with families. We also connect through a woman’s conferences to mothers.
North Texas Diversion Court– We assist survivors of domestic minor exploitation by serving the juvenile justice system. We plan events and spend time with girls who are in need of love and support. Giving them memories of laughter and hope through planning events for the girls.
Dignity Bags-When victims of trafficking are found by the police many times they go to the police station with nothing. These bags give officers the ability to immediately start restoring dignity back to the victims. They include a change of clothes, and soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrush, comb and hair-ties.
In 2017 we plan on opening a center to assist at-risk youth and victims of human trafficking with essential job skills, GED assistance, financial program, art therapy and optional Christ centered freedom ministry. In our program we will pair students with jobs after completion of the program.
